COACHING & mentoring

I coach and mentor creative teams and individuals, with a special interest in gender equity in leadership. One-on-one and group sessions can be held in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French. Read my point of view on women’s leadership coaching.

Teams

Teams who know how to collaborate are more emotionally resilient and creative because there is space to experience failure and vulnerability with support and tolerance. But changing a culture takes patience, consistency, resiliency to turnover, and adamant leadership support.

If you’re interested in fostering collaboration, creativity, and diversity in your team, get in touch. We will assess together if my approach is right for you, and I will create a tailored proposal for your specific needs.

individuals

My coaching and mentoring practice with individuals is a safe space to explore their career growth through personal development. I spent two years prototyping my approach to coaching, which is firmly based on three pillars:

  • Experimental Neuroscience has shown that decision-making is never purely cognitive; it is always modulated by emotions [5]

We make poor decisions when we're unaware of our emotions, allowing biases and unconscious habits to take over [6]

As a coach, I help clients increase emotional awareness and regulation so you can make adjusted decisions every day.

  • Mindfulness involves paying attention to our present experiences, both within and outside our bodies. Short Mindfulness practices have been shown to improve decision-making by enhancing interoception, self-regulation, and objective perspective, thus reducing biased reactions and increasing prosocial responses [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]

I am a certified Hakomi practitioner. Hakomi is a method of psychotherapy based on embodied mindfulness and supported by the current neuroscience research on emotional regulation.

  • Design Thinking [12] is a problem-solving approach based on creative research and small experiments to test ideas early and iteratively [13].
It creates a safe space for vulnerability and learning from failure. I integrate Design Thinking into sessions and between-sessions assignments, so you can try new approaches and make concrete changes in a low-risk setting.

Testimonials

  • Janaina Brizante, Neuroscientist (Brazil)

“Amongst scientists, psychotherapy approaches are often seen as too abstract and subjective to have scientific validity. Hakomi integrates these two worlds. It anchors interoception and responses from the autonomic nervous system with practices corroborated by a growing body of neuroscience research, including modulation of breathing, attention, and cognitive and emotional activity.

Working with Julia in designing a training that integrates coaching techniques and Hakomi with neuroscience has been a journey of learning and joy. Julia has a mix of generosity, excellent technical knowledge, and expertise to apply and adapt theory to practice, which has a definitive positive impact on our professional and personal lives.”

  • Atenas, Surgeon (Peru, USA)

Throughout our time working together, Julia consistently went above and beyond to ensure that we were equipped with the knowledge and tools we needed to succeed. Her commitment to informative communication made our journey not just a process, but an educational experience.

Julia’s blend of expertise, adaptability, and genuine passion for human-centered design makes her a standout professional in the field. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on our project, and we are genuinely grateful for the opportunity to work with such a dedicated individual. Highly recommended! Thank you for your help!

  • David Medina, Certified Hakomi Trainer (Spain)

Something very evident in Julia is the quality and warmth of her presence. I remember a colleague saying Julia is “like an immense ocean in which everything could be contained”. I completely agree.

Professionally, her commitment to caring for people, her willingness to be constantly tuning the instrument in and refining her practice, her intelligence, and her personal journey allow her to deeply understand people and their processes.

As a trainer of the Hakomi Method, it is an honor to have participated in her learning. I can confidently say that Julia is a great ambassador of the Hakomi Method and the loving presence it proposes.

  • Milla, Fashion Designer, Brazil

"Julia is a master of creating a warm and safe environment during our online sessions when I am invited to talk, think calmly, and share experiences. So far, she has already helped me make changes to areas of my practice, from negotiating with colleagues and superiors to planning a more ambitious career path.

She has a wealth of information to pass on from her high-quality training and I feel very appreciative to learn from her therapy skills. I highly recommend Julia to anyone who wants to repurpose his/her professional life."
