L’Academie de l’artisanat (Benin)

I led the team that created this program for out-of-school young women in rural Benin, who are at risk of unwanted pregnancy due to the prevalence of transactional sex as a means to meet basic needs. The Académie equips young women with professional skills to reduce their dependency on transactional sex. And while they are enjoying learning new skills, a nurse is there to answer their questions about safe sex in a relaxed, informal setting. The program ensures access to reproductive health services, so they can take control of their reproductive health and make informed choices about their futures.

The project included building the competence of field partners in Human-Centered Design.

A collaboration between IDEO.org, PSI, and USAID.

More about the project from the implementation partners.
